Winter in the garden

These past few days I have been locked up in my studio, knee deep in glitter, glue and wrapping paper. And I have loved every minute of it.
I can’t show you yet what I have been up to, because I have been busy preparing for our St. Nicolaas fest. Next Saturday we will celebrate his birthday by exchanging presents (and a couple surprises) and since some of my family members might read this before Saturday I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
Vanwege Sinterklaas heb ik de afgelopen dagen heel wat tijd op mijn hobby zolder doorgebracht. Heerlijk, ik heb zo lekker zitten knutselen en glitteren, ik heb er echt van genoten. En ik hoef jullie natuurlijk niet uit te leggen dat ik nog niet kan laten zien wat ik gemaakt heb, want dan zouden mijn meelezende familieleden weten wat de Sint voor hen in petto heeft.

But during the sunny moments I have escaped outside too. I feel I can’t start to decorate for Christmas just yet. I always feel St. Nicolaas should have left the country first before we bring Santa into the house. But I felt I could get away with a little winter decoration outside.
Op de Amerikaanse blogs is het kerstdecoreren al in volle glorie lostgebarsten, maar ik ben nog van de ouderwetse stempel en vind dat de Sint eerst vertrokken moet zijn voordat de kerstman naar binnen mag. Maar een beetje winter decoreren buiten (met een kerstsfeertje ik geef het toe) kan nog net.




I bought myself I whole crate of moss and started to decorate some wreaths with it.
Met een doos mos ben ik aan de slag gegaan en heb er onder andere deze krans mee gemaakt. De bestjes zijn niet echt, maar wel heel leuk en ze houden het lekker lang vol.



I filled some old fruit crates with red berries plants.
Fruit kistjes met plantjes, met opnieuw rode besjes.

 
Made a couple of balls from plastic bags and aluminum foil and wrapped them in moss too.
Voor de mosballen heb ik van plastic zakken en aluminium folie ballen gemaakt en die bekleed met mos. 



And I changed the wreath on our front door. I took away the orange leaves and dried out hydrangeas and instead added some pinecones and more red berries. Nearer to Christmas I will probably make it a bit more Christmassy, but for now I think it already looks a bit more winter then autumn.
De voordeur krans ziet er ook wat minder herstig uit. De oranje bladeren en de verdroogde hydrangeas zijn eruit en wat extra rode bessen (ja het is een thema dit jaar) en denne-appels maken hem al weer wat meer winter in plaats van herfst. Hij zal wel niet lang zo blijven en dan wordt hij  nog wat meer kerstig aangekleed.

A lovely package from a lovely person

My mailman had to ring my doorbell this weekend because he had a big beautiful package for me. A box full of surprises. What would be in it?



I was so excited! I love packages, surprises and gifts. But then again who doesn’t? It was the give-away package I won at Alisa’s 200+ posts-giveaway. Do you know Alisa, if you don’t head over there and check out her gorgeous crafty, vintage blog. She is not only a wonderful person but a very gifted and talented artist as well. I was over the moon happy that I’d won her giveaway.
Afgelopen weekend had de postbode weer eens een reden om aan te bellen. Hij had namelijk een pakketje voor me. Een paar weken geleden had ik de giveaway gewonnen van Alisa En tjonge, wat een giveaway was dat, echt geweldig?

Look at all of these beautifully wrapped gifts.



The gift wrap was a gift in itself. Look at that lovely brown tissue paper, the ribbons and tulle and of course that lovely corsage of glittery balls and dried baby’s breath. My Love wasn’t home when I received the package and I sat there admiring the packages for an hour waiting for him to come home and witness me opening them. Do you have that? That when something really good is happening you want a witness just because it makes it feel more real and you want to share your joy immediately? Luckily I knew he was on his way because I would not have been able to wait much longer.
De pakjes zelf waren al zo mooi ingepakt dat ze een cadeautje op zich waren. Mijn Lief was niet thuis toen het pakje aankwam en dus heb ik een uur zitten wachten totdat hij er was. Ik was zo opgewonden ik  had gewoon een getuige nodig. Hebben jullie dat ook wel eens dat je bij heel leuke gebeurtenissen gewoon iemand erbij wilt hebben omdat het dan dan nog beter is?



And then the unwrapping began. And so much gorgeousness was discovered.
Kijk maar eens naar al die schatten die er uit die pakjes kwamen. Te veel om op te noemen, maar allemaal in prachtige neutrale, herfstige tinten.



A lovely vintage tin, filled with delicious sweets. Flowers and feathers in the most beautiful neutral tones.



Vintage wallpaper and a set of lovely cards with nature images.



A bingo card and an handmade bookmark in the most beautiful autumn colors.



Velvet ribbons, pompoms and lace tied around coffee stained tags and embellished with these wonderful glittery autumn leaves.

And then my absolute favorite.



A handmade journal with this lovely lady on the front. I so want to start working on my own art-journal now, but I think I am going to use a simple store-bought one first. I am to scared to mess this lovely journal up.
Dit handgemaakte boek is mijn favoriet. Ik heb al veel art-journals gezien op het web en mijn handen jeuken om er ook een te beginnen. Alleen durf ik niet en al helemaal niet in dit prachtige schrift. Stel je voor dat ik het verknoei. Ik ga geloof ik maar een heel gewoon schriftje kopen bij de Hema dan is daar tenminste niets aan verloren gegaan.

I am loving my new white cupboard

I have given the little brown cupboard a Songbird makeover. As you can see it no longer is brown. If you can’t remember how it looked before you can see that here.

I’m in love with the new look.



It is so nice to see a rundown little cupboard of my in-laws spring back to life.



The white paint and the distressed edges bring out the lovely details like never before. Look at that edged glass, so precious.



It was such fun, styling it. It is my favorite part of the living room right now.

      
The last white roses from our garden (that bush is so wonderful it will bloom right until it starts to freeze) provide the finishing touch.



At night the lantern throws lovely shadows on the wall.
If only all projects would be this good.

An autumnal birthday banner

  

Last week My Love celebrated his birthday. We celebrated it with a small get-together with family but I really wanted to give him at least one personalized gift.

When I saw Sandy’s project of an autumn banner in artist class I knew what to do. I used her tutorial and materials to make a birthday banner for my guy. I only had a couple of hours squished in between other duties so I ended up doing a simpler version.

Vorige week was mijn Lief jarig. We hadden allebei niet veel tijd om er een echt feest van te maken, maar ik wilde hem toch graag een persoonlijk cadeautje geven. Dus heb ik een verjaardagsslinger voor hem gemaakt. Als inspiratie diende een herftst banner die ik in Artist Class gezien had. Ik heb hem een beetje vereenvoudigd, omdat ik niet veel tijd  had en omdat ik hem voor mijn Lief ook niet te meisjesachtig wilde maken.
Hij vond hem erg leuk en zelf was ik ook wel tevreden, en het was heerlijk om in wat gestolen minuutjes eindelijk aan een project te werken uit mijn online workshop(die echt geweldig is).

But that was ok, because I didn’t want it to become to girly anyway.

My love loved it, and so do I.

And I was so happy to finally do one of the projects in Artist Class, I am really loving it, but just haven’t had the time the dive into those projects but I am looking forward to doing that soon.

How to revamp a shirt into a pillow

Hi you guys, I’m back! We have been so busy! The preparations for the garage sale, the sale itself and then dealing with the late comers who decided days after that they wanted to buy something. But I am not complaining we did really well. On Saturday we had a full house and on Sunday some hoarders came back to get the last of the treasures.
Now all is left to do is find someone who will take the leftovers from our hands and then this job will finally be done. Amen to that.
Hallo daar ben ik weer, eindelijk! We hebben het zo druk gehad met de verkoop. De voorbereiding, het weekend zelf en dan daarna al die laatkomers die dagen later besloten nog een keer naar de kast te willen kijken om hem te kopen.
Maar alles is erg goed gegaan en we hebben nu echt nog maar een beetje over, als we dat nog kwijt zijn is deze klus eindelijk geklaard.
But I have done a little quickie project in the mean time that I want to show you.

I got it from my sis years ago. I liked the print and I loved the sleeves, but the shape just didn’t work for me. I hung on to it all the same and I finally came up with a use for it.
In de tussentijd had ik alleen maar tijd voor een klein snel projectje. Ik heb van een oud shirt een kussenhoesje gemaakt.
I altered a simple pillow.



It was as easy as one, two, three. Or more precisely Cut, Iron and Glue. I used fusible web to iron the image to the pillow and fabric glue to add the ribbon. It can’t have taken me more than half an hour.
Het was een heerlijk simpel klusje. Knippen, strijken met plakvlieseline en dan een koordje er omheen plakken met stoflijm. In een half uur was ik klaar.




A well spent half hour don’t you think.
Leuk geworden, toch?

Garage sale

Remember the big clear-out of my in-laws house? Well you didn’t think we were finished after getting 6 dumpsters of junk out of that house, now did you?! Or that my shopping sprees where I was thrifting at the in-laws got rid of anything good that was left?

After we got rid of the junk, there still was half a house left of stuff that was to good be thrown out. So these last couple of months we have spent many Saturdays, sorting, purging, cleaning and arranging all that stuff for the ultimate and final Garage-sale.

Next weekend will be the big event and to make sure there will be enough visitors I have made a special flyer. Photographing the various collections in a very dark house, was quite the challenge, but it worked out. So anyone who is in the neighborhood and who can convincingly prove that they are not a creepy stalker or dangerous killer can email me for the exact address and then you can go thrifting at my in-laws too.


Nadat we in het voorjaar druk bezig zijn geweest om de troep uit het huis van mijn schoonouders te halen (herinneren jullie je deze post?) zijn we daarna aan de slag gegaan met alles wat er nog over gebleven was.
Dus hebben we heel wat zaterdagen doorgebracht met sorteren, uitzoeken, schoonmaken en organiseren van eindeloos veel collecties van van alles en nog wat.

En nu is het dan eindelijk tijd voor ons verkoop weekend. Volgende week is het zo ver, dan is er open huis en kan iedereen die interesse heeft (en veel geld meeneemt LOL) het huis komen leeghalen.

Dus dames, als er nog iemand is die zin heeft om naar het zuiden te komen en te komen neuzen tussen onze brocante, jullie zijn van harte welkom. Stuur me een email met wat overtuigend bewijs dat je bent wie je zegt dat je bent en niet een of andere enge stalker, inbreker of moordenaar en ik stuur je het volledige adres.
